Used Oil and Oil Filter Recycling
According
to the California Integrated Waste Management Board, "one gallon
of used oil can contaminate one million gallons of drinking water."
The City uses refined motor-oil in its fleet vehicles and encourages
everyone to protect our creeks, rivers and the bay by recycling
used oil and oil filters.
Chula
Vista residents may recycle up to 5 gallons of used oil, and oil
filters, at the curb on their regular trash and recycling collection
day at no additional charge. To participate, please call Pacific
Waste Services at (619) 421-9400 at least two days prior to your
regular collection day to request the free service. Oil Filters
must be completely drained and placed in a watertight container
(like an old coffee can) with a plastic lid. Used oil must be placed
in the approved bottles, which are free and available, at most auto
part stores in the city and at the Public Services Building Lobby
in the Civic Center. A list of the free bottle locations in Chula
Vista is available through this link: http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/UsedOil/CrtCntrs.asp
Residents may also drop off up to twenty gallons of used motor
oil at any one of the locations on this website link. The sites
that accept used oil filters are identified on the list. Remember,
the gutter and storm drain system leads directly to our creeks,
rivers and the bay without treatment. So, "don't place anything
down the drain but rain!"
