About Recycling and Solid Waste
The Special Operations Division focuses primarily on improving
the level and quality of environmental and technological services
to City residents and businesses.
The division staff, made up of the: Special Operations Manager,
Environmental Resource Manager, Solid Waste Specialist, Recycling
Ranger, Administrative Technician and interns manage a wide variety
of service contracts and franchise services for the City. These
include: trash (solid waste) hauling & recycling services, household
hazardous waste disposal, and cable & telecommunications contractors.
The staff also advocates on behalf of consumers for improved standards
of service from contractors. The staff works to reach agreements
with contracts that will maximize service quality and reduce cost,
provide printed and/or electronic public information on services
available and respond efficiently and effectively to consumer inquiries
no later than the next business day.
The Recycling and Conservation program staff also promote and implement
environmentally sustainable practices for City facilities, programs
and the community. Staff works to identify the resources and provide
the technical assistance needed to develop and maintain sustainable
practices including:
- Participate as a member of the International Council for Local
and Environmental Initiatives.
- Gather and disseminate information and resources from other
agencies that can contribute to the City's sustainability efforts.
- Work with city departments to implement the City's CO2 Reduction
Plan.
- Provide technical assistance to city departments, residents
and businesses to implement conservation measures.
