Water Conservation
Water is a limited resource that is an integral part of our everyday
lives.
The City of Chula Vista encourages residents and businesses to
conserve water. Use water wisely by making every drop count.
The average household uses 350 gallons of water a day. Cut back
on water usage with common sense conservation. Below are low or
no-cost measures that you can adopt for your house or business to
save water and make a difference:
- Plant drought tolerant plants. For ideas, visit the Water Conservation
Gardens http://www.thegarden.org
- Replace fixtures and old appliances with water-saving equipment.
Start by installing a low flow showerhead.
- Fix leaks http://www.h2ouse.org.
- Rake and sweep leaves -- don't hose them away
- If you have a swimming pool, get a cover. You'll cut water evaporation
by 90 percent.
- Only run the dishwasher and clothes washer when they are fully
loaded.
- Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator or microwave instead
of running water over it.

tips to help you conduct a water audit, manage your water use and
