Frequently Asked Questions

Chula Vista Animal Care Facility

130 Beyer Way

Chula Vista, CA 91911

(619) 691-5123

When should I get my dog licensed?
The City of Chula Vista requires all dogs over the age of 4 months to have a current rabies vaccination and license.

Where can I purchase a license?
Dog licenses may be purchased anytime our shelter is opened, which is Monday-Friday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. We are also open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please be aware that we only do rabies vacciations for the public Monday-Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Does the Animal Care Facility adopt out pets?
Yes they do! The Animal Care Facility has many great pets available for adoption. You can view them online at www.petharbord.com but it is best to come down and visit the shelter.

I lost my dog or cat, what should I do?
Go to the shelter in your jurisdiction. If you have lost your pet in the cities of Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, National City, or Imperial Beach, please go to the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility to look for your pet. If you cannot visit the shelter, owners can search for their pets at www.petharbor.com. All animals at the Animal Care Facility are posted to and updated on this site daily. Only you can identify your lost pet. Please do not rely on shelter staff to do so over the phone. Animals wearing an ID or license will often lose their tags. Once at the shelter, you can fill out a lost or found report and leave a flyer. This is a very important step that should not be missed. It is imperative all owners check the shelter in person or www.petharbor.com at least every three days. Bring a leash with you and any proof of ownership you may have.

What should I do if I find a stray dog?
If you have found a stray dog, please immediately bring the dog to the shelter that handles that jurisdiction. The Animal Shelter is the first place an owner will look for their lost pet.

What can I do about wild cats?
Animal Control Officers do not handle calls on feral cats. You may rent a humane trap from the Animal Shelter with a $60.00 cash deposit. You may only trap cats on your property and turn them into the Animal Shelter. Your deposit will be refunded upon the return of the humane trap.

What can I do about a barking dog?
The Chula Vista Animal Care Faciliy does respond to barking dog complaints. Please call our Dispatch line Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The number is (619) 476-2476.

Where can I learn more about microchips?
Please visit our Pet Facts page for more information about microchips and the process by which they are implanted.
