Construction and Repair
The Construction and Repair section consists of skilled craft workers in plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, locksmith, and HVAC trades. Through on-going maintenance and repair of the City’s 115+ buildings and 42+ parks, these workers ensure safe and comfortable environments for both City employees and members of the public. In addition to their maintenance duties, the construction and repair section manages and completes the minor capital improvement projects throughout the City.
Custodial and Facility Management

The Custodial and Facility Management section is comprised of building services professionals who provide special expertise and quality cleaning services to all Citywide facilities. The custodial staff follows state and federal guidelines in an effort to maintain proper levels of sanitation. The work is done by a core group of 35+ full time, part time and temporary employees maintaining a total of 465,252+ square feet of facility space.
Staff accommodates City staff and the public with daily maintenance requirements as well as providing special event set up and coordination, pest control services, recycling programs, securing City facilities and maintaining the proper display of the City, State and Federal flags.
The goal of the Custodial and Facility Management section is to promote pride in the service we perform and to enhance the facilities’ appearance, while extending the life of the facility. Everyone is a valued customer.
Internal Communications
The Internal Communications (formerly under Public Works Operations) joined the General Services Department effective July 1, 2005. The Communications section provide electronic and safety equipment installation, repair and maintenance services to all City departments with an emphasis on Police and Fire so they can provide uninterrupted emergency services to the public. The section’s objectives include but are not limited to the following:

Provide immediate response for pairs to Police and Fire emergency communications equipment 24 hours per day.

Provide support for repair of non-emergency equipment utilized Citywide. Provide emergency services and maintenance assistance to Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District for fire dispatch emergency communications systems and equipment.

Ensure future communications equipment and services meet minimum standards of quality and maintainability.

Maintain all audio/visual equipment, coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for installation of communications equipment and update City equipment to ensure continued compatibility with other agencies in the region.
