ADULT Volunteer Opportunities

Animal Care Facility
Volunteer assignments may include the care and feeding of animals,
exercising animals, assisting the public with adoptions, fostering
animals, and performing clerical work and providing general maintenance
of the Shelter.
Fire Department
CAST, the Citizen’s Adversity Support Team, is jointly operated
by the Fire Department and the Police Department. CAST assist
fellow citizens during crisis situations. Members of the CAST
team are required to attend specialized training for four months
and are required to be on-call for emergencies.
CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team, meets monthly to organize and train in emergency preparedness. Volunteers assist the Chula Vista Fire Department, should the Fire Chief request assistance during a disaster. CERT members attend a 24-hour academy over several days. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and reside or work in the City of Chula Vista.
Police Department
The Police Department has numerous volunteer opportunities including general police support in the office, Explorer Scouts, Mounted Police, Police Reserve, Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP), and Graffiti Abatement.
The Chula Vista Police Reserve, a volunteer organization comprised of academy trained Police Reserve Officers, augments the department by assisting with routine patrol functions, special events, and Traffic and Bicycle team. Reserve officers are required to complete the Police Academy for POST ceritfication (or must be 3/4 complete at time of application).
Library
Volunteers assist in the three branches of the library, Heritage
Museum and through the Friends of the Library. Volunteers assist
with audiovisual equipment, the delivery of books to those who
are homebound, the binding and repair of books, and many other
related tasks.
Recreation
Volunteers are needed for recreation classes, including coaching
winter and summer youth sports, pool supervisors, and working
with our communities; senior population. Department volunteers
help with operations and can assist in activities.
