City of Chula Vista 3D Modeling Program
Why create a 3D model of Chula Vista?
By creating 3D building models and exposing this data through Google, City staff and citizens can view Chula Vista’s existing landscape and future development in a 3D context. Since Google Earth is a free downloadable program, this is a great way to provide access to this data to the general public and engage citizens in future planning projects.
Driven by the Development Services Department to encourage economic development, the first phase of this project focused on the creation of non-residential buildings along 3rd Avenue and the H Street corridor. Phase II will expand the scope of the project to include creation of 3D buildings for City Hall, Police Facility and Palomar Gateway center.
In the future, architects and developers will be encouraged to create 3D models in a Google format, allowing staff and public to visualize future buildings or developments like the Bay front and Eastern Urban Core and show how these changes might impact existing conditions or neighborhoods.
