Due to the proposed budget and staff reductions, the library will eliminate most programs and some other services starting in April.
Starting in April, Civic Center and South Chula Vista branches will only provide one storytime a week and a few other programs that are provided by non-library staff.
The Library's annual Spring Reading P
rogram has a new theme. Read Green @ Your Library debuts on March 16. Children should visit their library and pick up a reading log, reduced in size and printed on recycled paper. Teens will participate by doing their reading logs online.
Participants will be rewarded with prizes based on the amount of time they spend reading between March 16 and April 18.
The library is partnering with Sylvan Learning to offer free SAT/ACT diagnostic testing starting March 28. Students interested in this great opportunity need to contact Sylvan at 619-267-8705 or sylvanbonita@gmail.com by March 16. Space is limited.

In the library's ongoing efforts to provide improved and more efficient service, the library has replaced the old self-check machines.
"These new machines do everything faster and better," said Digital Services Manager Jodie Sawina. "Plus these machines give our guests full access to their accounts and including the ability to swipe their credit card if they owe any fees," continued Sawina.
Chula Vista was the first library in the region to begin using self-checks as the primary way for guests to borrow materials, and continue to check out more than 80% of their materials this way, allowing the busy libraries to run very efficiently.

One by Kathryn Otoshi. Blue is a quiet color. Red’s a hothead who likes to pick on Blue. Yellow, Orange, Green, and Purple don’t like what they see, but what can they do? As budding young readers learn about numbers, counting, and primary and secondary colors, they also learn about accepting each other's differences and how it sometimes just takes one voice to make everyone count.
