All Chula Vista libraries will be closed on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans' Day and again on Nov. 27 & 28 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. No items are due on closed days, and many library services are available online at www.chulavistalibrary.com.
The library's annual "Tackle a Good Book" Reading Program starts on Nov. 1 and continues through the month. Kids and Teens can visit their branch to find out more about the cool rewards being offered, and to pick up a log book.
Also, teens and kids can register themselves online for the program starting on Nov. 1, and start keeping track of their progress.
Looking to learn some new skills in football or street hockey?
The library will offer clinics in the two sports the first three Saturdays in Nov. Any child or teen interested can register for the clinics on the library's homepage.

Local director Robert Williams' movie, Cherry Mapping, will be screened in the Civic Center Branch auditorium on Nov. 15 at 2pm. Williams will be on hand to introduce the movie and answer questions afterwards. He will be looking for additional feedback on the movie, and has applied for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
The feature is recommended for ages 17 and over.
Doors will open at 6:30pm, and the program is FREE and enjoyable by all ages.

Ed began with the South Chula Vista Branch Friends in 2002, when he met another volunteer named Norm. Ed didn’t realize that Norm was grooming him to take over his job, so that he could retire. Ever since, Ed has brought his own brand of knowledge, wisdom, and foolery to the job.
Ed Spies has spent his life in education, working as teacher, a principal, and all areas in between. He worked at schools from middle to adult to corrections, from California to Oregon. Ed continues to work with the County Office of Education, supervising testing.
A true San Diego native, he attended one room schools in Barrett Junction and Tecate. He got his Bachelor's degree from San Diego State. He later worked on the EED program in a joint venture with Point Loma and Northern Arizona Universities.
