The Chula Vista Public Library Foundation recently gave the library $9,500 to purchase children's and teen books for the branches. Most of the materials were purchased at the Otay Ranch Town Center Barnes and Noble.
The purchase was made possible by a fundraising event held earlier in the year. The event featured many Chula Vista restaurants and much of the wine was donated. The Foundation is currently planning another event for April 25, 2009, so mark your calendars for what will be another great evening!
Bookplates were placed on all the books purchased by the Foundation. The Foundation is a tax-exempt non-profit organization. If you are interested in making a donation to the Foundation or becoming involved with with them, visit their website at www.cvplfoundation.org
Looking for a great book at an even greater price? Check out the library's three booksales in October. All types of books will be available, including a selection of bestsellers and children's materials.
Proceeds from Friends booksales are used to fund programs and events, such as the three annual reading program. Also, the Friends recently paid for the recarpeting of the Civic Center Branch Children's room.

EastLake volunteer Marge Cunningham has been the cornerstone for all the booksales done by the EastLake Friends Chapter for many years.
Every three months Marge rounds up her family members (including in-laws and grandchildren), and their vehicles to transport books to an EastLake shopping center. Without Marge and her wonderful family there would have been no booksales.
Married since 1964, Marge and her husband Roger are the parents of 3 daughters, and have 8 grandchildren. A former adult education ESL teacher, Marge continues to work by helping the Sweetwater Union High School District with English testing.
