August 9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reading program festival starts at the Civic Center library auditorium with Tunes and Tales by Nancy Saint John, then moves outside for face painting, balloons and more.

7/14/2008 "Breaking Dawn" Teen Party as South Chula Vista Branch
Breaking Dawn will be on Aug. 2, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the South Chula Vista branch, after the library closes for the day.

6/10/2008 Free “Music in the Park”

“Music In The Park,” a free summer concert series, will offer a variety of musical sounds in three Chula Vista parks through Aug. 17. Featured bands will play music ranging from R&B and Latin jazz to Big Band, surfing and oldies. All of the concerts will be presented on Sundays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.


6/10/2008 "Catch the Reading Bug" at the Chula Vista Library this Summer!

Visit your library branch this summer and “Catch the Reading Bug,” the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program. Magic shows, science experiments, animal shows, movies, and arts and crafts activities are among the many exciting free activities in store for kids this summer. Open to children from infant to age 12, the reading program offers youngsters a chance to receive incentives for reading or in the case of pre-readers—listening.


6/6/2008 Local Author to Discuss Latest Book at Library

What would the world be like today if the Japanese had attacked San Diego in 1942? What would you do if you found out this happened in an alternate universe? These are some of the questions prompted in Roger Conlee’s new book, “Counterclockwise.” Conlee will be at the Civic Center Branch Library on June 14 at 2 p.m. to discuss the book and answer questions. Following the free presentation, the book will be on sale and there will be a book signing. The Civic Center branch is located at 365 F St.


5/28/2008 McCandliss Art Awards Winners Named

Eight local artists will be presented with the 2008 Gayle McCandliss Art Awards at the June 3 Chula Vista City Council meeting. The awards, given annually to individuals and community organizations who have supported the arts in Chula Vista, are presented in memory of the late Mayor Gayle McCandliss. The City Council meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista.


5/2/2008 "Rock On" Film Festival Starts May 7

Musicians and their music will be the theme for the library’s film festival starting May 7
