Independent Film Festival at the Library

The Chula Vista Library's Independent Film series debuts Sunday, September 7, at 2 p.m. with three remarkable films -- La Gran Final (The Great Match), Viva Cuba, and Madeinusa. Award winning independent films from all over the world will be shown in the Library's Civic Center branch auditorium every Sunday in September and continues two Sundays a month in October and November. The auditorium is located at 365 F St., Chula Vista. All films are unrated, subtitles, and recommended for ages 17 and over. For more information contact the library at (619)691-5069 or go online at www.chulavistalibrary.com.

Sept. 7 - La Gran Final tells three parallel tales of soccer fans from far-flung corners of the world (Mongolia, Niger and the Brazilian rainforest), who are committed to finding a way - any way - to watch the 2002 World Cup Final between Germany & Brazil.

Sept. 14 - Viva Cuba is a "Romeo and Juliet" type tale about the friendship between two children and how it becomes threatened by their parents' differences.

Sept. 21 - Madeinusa is a 14-year old girl who lives in an isolated village in the Cordillera Blanca Mountain range of Peru. This strange place is characterized by its religious fervor. Everything changes with the arrival of a young geologist from Lima, who will unknowingly change the desting of the girl.

Sept. 28 - The Violin is a sotry about a man and his son and grandson who live a double live. The are musicians and humble farmers who support the peasant guerilla movement's armed efforts against an oppressive government.
