A non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable support organization formed to help the Chula Vista Recreation Department serve the disadvantaged youth of our community through financial support. The board is comprised of community leaders; there are currently nine members, and the board can accommodate up to 25 members. The board works closely with the City’s Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Commission to identify projects/programs that need additional financial support.
The board’s primary objective and purpose is to aid, sponsor, promote, advance, and assist in the support of recreation programs in the City of Chula Vista. The first area of concern is to address the urgent need for swimming lessons for the community’s 4th grade level children. The board focused on the “Walk of Honor” walkway that was installed at Veteran’s Park in the City of Chula Vista to be dedicated tentatively in May 2006.
The walkway consists of commemorative bricks inscribed with the name of one veteran, active duty person, or reservist and their respective branch of service; this includes police and fire services as well. All net proceeds from this project will jointly benefit the Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation and the Chula Vista Veteran’s Home Support Foundation.
The Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation embraces the City’s mission to making the community a better place to live, work and play through services that promote PRIDE.
The Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation embraces this mission statement and is committed to achieving the City’s goals.
