The Building Division provides a number of important services for the citizens of Chula Vista. The Division is responsible for the following:
- Confirming that all commercial, industrial and residential
construction projects meet the minimum requirements of the
State and locally mandated construction codes.
- Responding to citizen complaints regarding violations
of the property standards and requirements contained in
the Municipal Code.
At the Development Services counter the Division provides information to the public
and answer citizen inquiries regarding code requirements,
permit applications, and plan review/ inspection processes.

Beginning on January 1, 2014, the City of Chula Vista is required by State law to enforce the 2013 Edition of California Building Standards Codes (Title 24 of the California Codes of Regulations). All projects submitted before or on December 3, 2013 are permitted to comply with the 2010 Edition of the California Building Standards Code. Click here for more information.
TITLE 15 OF THE CHULA VISTA MUNICIPAL CODE
In addition to the California Building Standards Codes, the Department enforces the Chula Vista Building Standards Code contained in Title 15 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code (CVMC). Title 15 of the CVMC contains the administrative and enforcement provisions for the design and construction of buildings and structures within the City of Chula Vista.
