Disaster Preparedness
The City of Chula Vista employs a Disaster Preparedness manager.
This person works under the direction of the Fire Marshal and has
an office located at the main fire station. This person is responsible
for organizing and maintaining the Emergency Operations Center.
Additional duties are to organize training across City departments
to staff positions and manage disasters that have an impact on Chula
Vista. This position also works to secure and maintain contracts
to provide food, communications, shelter, transportation, and other
items necessary in large quantities during a disaster to keep the
Emergency Operations Center functioning around the clock.
Chula Vista has a functioning "Emergency Operations Center" that
can be fully staffed in less than an hour's time. From the Emergency
Operation center, any natural, civil, or terrorist emergency can
be managed, resources directed and controlled, and informed decisions
made.
The Emergency Operation Center also plays a role in developing
and preparing for any contingency. It is used for orientation and
for training and exercises in developing of readiness and capability
of the emergency organization.
After an emergency, the Emergency Operation Center is used in the
recovery phase to direct recovery operations, bringing the city
and the citizens back to a state of normalcy.
