UASI is covering registration fees for SPECIFIED the classes listed below for Professional Fire Personnel working in the County of San Diego. 

Registration accepted online only, click on corresponding links below.  

Please supply the following information:

Wait List: Registration is on a first come, first served basis. If an upcoming class is full upon receipt of your email, you will be notified that you are on a wait list and will be added to the class roster if a spot becomes available due to a cancellation.

Note: State Fire Training requires students to attend all required hours for course certifications.  Before registering please read our cancellation policy.

 

Confined Space Rescue TechnicianConfined Space Rescue Technician
This course provides information to identify confined spaces and permit required confined spaces, evaluate hazardous atmospheres, determine adequate levels of personal protection, techniques needed for hazard mitigation, identify basic operational positions, understand responsibility set by CAL-OSHA, and prepare for confined space rescue operations.

 

Low Angle Rope Rescue OperationsLow Angle Rope Rescue Operations
Designed to equip the student with the techniques and methods for using rope, webbing, hardware, friction devices, litters in low angle rescue situations.  Areas covered include: Rope and related equipment, anchor systems, safety lines, stretcher lashing and rigging, mechanical advantage systems and single line and two line rescue systems. Designed for all fire service personnel.

 

Rescue SystemsRescue Systems One: Basic Rescue Skills
The topics include: Team organization, rescue, and environmental considerations, use the ropes, knots rigging and pulley systems, descending, rappelling, and belaying tools and techniques, subsurface rescue techniques, use of cribbing,  wedges, cutting/prying and hydraulic tools, use the fire service ladders in specialized rescue situations, and day and night simulated rescued exercises.

  • Pre-requisite: Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations, copy of certificate needed for first day of class.
    Textbook and California State Fire Marshal certificate issued.

RS2

Rescue Systems Two: Advanced Rescue Skills

RS2 will prepare rescuers in recognizing hazards, using equipment and implementing techniques necessary to operate at structural collapse incidents involving all types of construction.  The following three different rescue disciplines will be covered; Shoring; Breaking, Breaching & Burning; Lifting & Moving.

Rope Rescue Technician   Rope Rescue Tech Wide
This five day course is designed to meet certification requirements for Rope Rescue Technician based on NFPA 1006, 2008 edition.  After completion of this course students will take written and skills tests on chapter 5 and Chapter 6 per NFPA 1006 job performance requirements. This training will include the participants ability to evaluate, manage, and perform a technical rope rescue as described by NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670.  Topics: multi-point anchor systems, compound rope mechanical advantage systems, ascending and descending a fixed rope, fixed rope systems, patient pickoffs and highline systems.

  • Pre-requisite: Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations, Rescue Systems 1, or any previous rescue technician level course.
  • Pre-Test: a study packet will be electronically sent to attendees to prepare for a pass/fail requisite skills test to be delivered the first in class.

 

Structural Collapse Technician and Rescue Systesctms 2
This is the DHS/FEMA US&R Structural Collapse Technician (SCT) curriculum; which meets or exceeds NFPA 1670 and 1006 (most current editions).  SCT is an 8 day, 80 hours course which meets position description requirements for FEMA US&R Rescue Specialist, Officer, Manager and Safety Officer.  SCT will prepare rescuers to recognizing hazards, using eqiupment and implementing techinques necessary to operate at structural collapse incidents involving all types of construction.                                              

 

Swiftwater Rescue Operations|SRO NFPA 1670 Level Swiftwater Rescue Ops
This two (2) day course is a basic level water rescue course for emergency first responders designed to meet and exceed the NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations & Training for Technical Search & Rescue Incidents (Revised 2009) for water at the operations level. 

At the conclusion of this course, students will have the ability to self-rescue, perform land based rescues, and support technicians for in-water and advanced rescue techniques.

Topics: Hydrology, water rescue assement and size up, self-rescue skills, land based victim rescue skills, simple rope rescue systems, and technician support skills.

  • Pre-requisite:  Basic swimming ability, LARRO recommended.
  • PPE:  Water PPE (Swiftwater helmet, full wetsuit / drysuit, type III or V rescue PFD with whistle, and booties).

Swiftwater Rescue Techician|SRTI & Advanced|NFPA 1670 Level
This six (6) day course is designed to meet certification requirements for Swiftwater Rescue Technician I & II based on NFPA 1006, 2008 edition. This training will include the participants ability to evaluate, manage and perform a technical swiftwater rescue as described by NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670.  Topics: Hydrology, self-rescue skills, land and in-water contact victim rescue skills, simple and advanced rope rescue systems, search skills and live helicopter short-haul exercises.

  • Pre-requisite:  LARRO required, RRT recommended.                                  
  • After completion of each course (SRTI & SRTA) students will take written and skills tests on Chapter 5 and Chapter 12 per NFPA 1006 job performance requirements.
  • PPE: Water PPE (Swiftwater helmet, drysuit, type V rescue PFD with whistle and knife, gloves and booties).  Items can be rented from Chula Vista FD for the class| Additional Cost of $200.00

TrenchRescueTrench Rescue 
This course is designed to train fire service personnel in hands-on application of the techniques necessary to safely affect a rescue from an excavation or trench cave-in.  Topics include: Critical considerations while responding to trenching emergencies, evaluation of cave-in scenes, basic life support procedures and temporary protection for victims, specialized tool usage, shoring techniques, and  below grade rescue safety procedures.
