The Crime Analysis Unit provides analytical and statistical support
for field operations, investigations and administration. Crime analysis
information enhances the administrative decision making process
and facilitates the tactical deployment of department resources,
including personnel. Crime analysis information also cultivates
investigative leads, including suspect identification. One of the
many functions of the unit is to provide information in response
to requests by staff from within the Police Department, as well
as other City departments and outside agencies.
To ensure correct analysis, investigation, and reporting of crime
related information, the Data Entry Section works closely with all
crime analysis staff. Data entry personnel provide data entry support
for the entire department, and are responsible for the accurate
entry of data into state, regional and local automated criminal
justice systems, including the Automated Regional Justice Information
System (ARJIS) and the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications
System (CLETS).
The Alarm Program, which tracks and analyzes false alarms and alarm
permit information, is also part of the Crime Analysis Unit. The
primary goal of the Alarm Program is the elimination of false alarms.
In an effort to acco mplish
this, crime analysis personnel jointly develop corrective action
plans with residents, business owners/managers and school officials
to identify false alarm concerns at particular locations.
