Police Dispatcher
The professional positions of the Police Dispatcher series consists
of Police Dispatchers and Police Dispatcher Trainee. Career advancement
to Police Dispatch Supervisor is possible. Police Dispatchers work
an assigned 10-hour shift in a highly technological and ever changing
environment. The Public Safety Dispatch Center is in operation 24-hours
a day,
7 days a week.
Communications lay at the heart of police work. These dedicated
individuals maintain 2-way radio contact with police personnel as
well as providing telephone communication with the public and other
government agencies. The Chula Vista Police Department also employs
Mobile Data Computer (MDC) technology as well as Geographic Information
System (GIS) data to maintain Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) integrity.
A career in police dispatching is both challenging and rewarding
as evidenced by the numerous life saving awards presented to Chula
Vista dispatchers in the past for performing CPR over the telephone
and coordinating public safety resources during critical incidents.
