Physical Agility Test

All Police Recruit applicants and Lateral applicants are required to pass the Chula Vista Physical Agility Test (PAT). The test is designed to give applicants the opportunity to show the physical skills necessary to work in the Police environment. The Chula Vista PAT is a two-part test.
The first portion of the test consists of a 1½ mile run. All applicants must be able to complete the run within a 15-minute time frame. All applicants who complete the run within the allotted time will be given approximately 20-30 minutes to rest and recover. Successful applicants will then proceed to the second portion of the test.
The second portion of the test requires all applicants to pass a fairly rigorous obstacle course. The obstacle course must be completed within 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The obstacle course consists of the following activities.
Applicants Must Be Able To:
- Low Crawl Under 2 Foot Metal Bars
- Climb 2 Chain Fences Approximately 10 Feet High
- Sprint Run Approximately 40 Yards To Stairs
- Run Up And Down Approximately 140 Stairs
- Run Through a 40-50 Yard Slalom Run
- Climb a 3-Foot Wall
- Climb a 4-Foot Wall
- Climb a 6-Foot Wall
- Drag a 165 - Pound Dummy Approximately 30 feet
- Run 200-Yards To Finish The Obstacle Course

All applicants must complete both portions of the Physical Agility Test (PAT) to advance to the next portion of the hiring process. The City of Chula Vista often conducts a Practice Physical Agility Test for current applicants prior to giving the actual (PAT).
