On March 28th, 2009, Officers from Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol, conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in the 1700 block of Palm Avenue in the City of San Diego. The operation was part of the DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the operation, 7 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and 20 vehicles were impounded for drivers without licenses. 10 other subjects were issued citations for various traffic violations.
This was considered a successful operation, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
