  Police Department

On April 24, 2009 Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department's DUI Enforcement Unit conducted a Sobriety and Driver License Checkpoint on the 1000 block of Third Avenue in the City of Chula Vista. The operation began at approximately 7pm and ended at approximately 1:30 a.m.

During the Sobriety Checkpoint, 3513 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 681 vechicles were screened. Nine field sobriety tests were administered and four drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. 25 vehicles were impounded, mostly for unlicensed drivers at the wheel.

This was considered a successful DUI Sobriety Checkpoint. The Chula Vista Police Department's DUI Enforcement Unit is continuing efforts to keep drivers in our community safe by deterring and detecting impaired drivers.

This operation was made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
