Coronado - On May 15th, 2009, Officers from Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, Coronado, the California Highway Patrol, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in the City of Coronado. The operation was part of the DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the operation, 5 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and 8 vehicles were impounded for drivers without licenses. One of the suspects has 6 prior convictions for driving under the influence.
This was considered a successful operation, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
