Chula Vista- On Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, Officers from the Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, Oceanside, Escondido, and Ontario Police Departments and the San Diego Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol conducted a multi-agency Illegal Racing Modification Enforcement operation in the City of Chula Vista.
The operation was part of the Operation Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing Grant funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. The operation targeted vehicles that have been illegally modified for the purpose of racing.
During the operation 32 citations were issued to drivers with illegal modifications, 1 driver was cited and had their vehicle impounded for reckless driving at 105 mph on Olympic Parkway, and 2 other vehicles were impounded for driver’s license issues.
This was considered a successful operation, both in number of citations issued and the amount of public awareness generated. The Dragnet Task Force is continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our communities safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California
Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
