8/7/2009 - CVPD seeks public's help in locating hit and run driver

The Chula Vista Police Traffic Unit is investigating a violent hit and run that happened on 7/22/09 just after 11 p.m. The 13-year old female victim was walking with a friend, southbound in the crosswalk at Palomar St and Palomar Commerce Center, in front of the Dell Taco fast food restaurant. That's when the suspect, driving a silver or blue compact car, ran the red light traveling east at 600 Palomar St. Per witnesses, the suspect was driving a minimum of 50 miles per hour and never slowed down after striking the victim. The teenage girl suffered a compound fracture to her left femur and her left knee was shattered.

Per witness statements, the suspect might have been at the ARCO gas station located at Palomar Street and Interstate 5 just before the hit and run. There, the suspect possibly struck another car and/or had an argument with someone at that gas station.

Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Chula Vista Police Department and Officer Rusty Nelson at (619) 476-5300.
