10/5/2009 - FATHER AND SON SHOT BY SUSPECTS TRYING TO ENTER HOME

On 10-03-09 at about 2236 hours, the Chula Vista Police Department received a call of a shooting that occurred at a residence in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue.

The caller reported that several suspects had tried to force their way through the front door of their home. The caller's father and brother tried to stop the suspects and the suspects fired several rounds from a handgun.

The forty-two year old father received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm and he was transported to UCSD for treatment.

The victim's twelve year old son was shot in the stomach and transported to Children's hospital. The child underwent surgery and his injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

The suspects fled on foot after the shooting. Officers searched the area with the aid of the ASTREA helicopter and a Chula Vista canine but did not locate the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.

Chula Vista Police Department Crimes of Violence detectives were called out to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Crimes of Violence Sergeant Kenny Heinz at (619) 691-5202.
