On Satruday, October 3, 2009, at approximately 7:30 AM, an officer of the Chula Vista Police Department, while on routine patrol, located a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Good Nite Inn, 225 Bay Boulevard, Chula Vista. Officers conducted surveillance on the stolen vehicle until about 9:30 AM, when a Hispanic male adult and Hispanic female adult got into the vehicle. Officers attempted to contact and detain the individuals, but the Hispanic male driver rammed the stolen vehicle into an occupied Chula Vista Police vehicle. The Hispanic female was ejected from the vehicle, suffered superficial wounds, and was taken into custody without further incident.
Meanwhile, the Hispanic male drove in reverse at a high rate of speed through the motel parking lot and smashed through a metal barricade at the parking lot exit. The suspect continued in reverse, southbound on the 200 block of Bay Boulevard. While driving in reverse the suspect fired five rounds from a semi-automatic handgun through his windshield at pursuing officers.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle and fled on foot into the property of Goodrich Aerostructures Group, 850 Lagoon Drive, Chula Vista. There he contacted an employee of the business, and demanded the employee's car keys and cash. A struggle ensued and the suspect fled. The suspect continued running through the property of the business, where he located and stole a parked vehicle. The suspect drove the vehicle through the southern gate of the property, which was blocked by a security barricade and two Chula Vista Police officers. The suspect smashed through the security barricade forcing the officers to leap out of his way. The suspect fled southbound on the I-5 freeway. Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department and the San Diego Police Department, assisted by the San Diego Sheriff's Department ASTREA helicopter, pursued the suspect into South San Diego. The suspect was later shot by officers of the San Diego Police Department and suffered fatal injuries. No Chula Vista Police officers were injured in this incident.
The Hispanic female, later identified as Salina Galindo (34 year old resident of San Diego), was charged with possession of stolen property. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the events that occurred in the City of San Diego, including the shooting at the conclusion of the pursuit.
