National City - On September 25th, 2009, Officers from Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, and the California Highway Patrol conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in the 2600 block of Highland Avenue. The operation was part of the DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the operation, 5 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. Another 3 were arrested for parole violations. 29 vehicles were impounded for drivers without licenses.
This was considered a successful operation, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
