San Marcos- On Friday, September 11, 2009, Officers from the Chula Vista, National City, Escondido, La Mesa and San Diego Sheriff's Office teamed up to conduct a multi-agency Illegal Street Racing and Modification Enforcement operation. The operation took place in the City of San Marcos, county of San Diego. The detail was part of the Operation Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing Grant funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. The operation targeted vehicles that have been illegally modified for the purpose of Illegal Street racing as well as vehicles with other equipment violations. During the operation 72 citations were issued to drivers for vehicle code violations, officers had 139 contacts and 10 vehicles were impounded for unlicensed and suspended drivers.

This was considered a successful operation, both in number of citations issued and the amount of public awareness generated. The Drag Net Task Force is continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our communities safe.
