Imperial Beach - On September 6th, 2010, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in Imperial Beach. The operations were part of the DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the operations, 1 driver was arrested for driving under the influence with prior convictions for DUI, and 26 vehicles were impounded for drivers without valid licenses.
These were considered successful operations, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
