9/20/2010 - Attempted ATM Burglary

On 09/20/10 at 0315 hrs, an employee at the Mercardo International, 1415 Third Avenue, Chula Vista, interrupted a burglary in progress. Two black male adult suspects, 20-30 yrs, med height/build, dark clothing, had just broken the front glass door to the business when an employee exited a back room and discovered the crime in progress.

The suspects, upon seeing the witness, fled on foot leaving a stolen red/white 1991 Chevrolet truck behind (the vehicle was reported stolen on 09/19/10, 10-15649). The suspects had parked the vehicle near the front doors, broke the door windows, then wrapped a metal cable to the truck in an attempt to pull the doors open. There is an ATM approximately 15 feet feet inside the doors, which appears to have been the likely target.

After the suspects ran off, their running stolen vehicle rolled forward on its own and eventually struck another building causing damage. The vehicle was impounded and brought to CVPD for processing.
