10/14/2010 - Second arrest made in street fight killing
 

18-year old Anthony Talavera of Chula Vista has been arrested and is being held on one count of 187 PC for the death of 21-year old Joseph Barrs.

Talavera was taken into custody when he self-reported to CVPD headquarters yesterday, October 13th. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the South Bay Courthouse on Friday, October 15th.

Bonita resident and student Uriel Alejandro Sanchez, 20 years of age, was taken into custody Monday for Barrs killing. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, October 14th at the South Bay Courthouse.

On Sunday, 10/11/2010, Sanchez came to the Chula Vista Police Department voluntarily. After questioning by detectives he was taken into custody, arrested and charged with one count of 187(a)PC, murder.

Background

The killing happened in the early morning hours of 10/10/2010. It began as a verbal dispute between persons attending a house party in the 400 Block of Krista Court, Chula Vista. A fight erupted in the street outside the house with several witnesses observing the altercation.

Chula Vista Police were called to the scene and found the 21-year-old victim on the ground and unresponsive; he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
