On February 28th, 2011 Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department and Officers from the San Diego County Probation Department participated in a joint operation conducting compliance checks on persons on probation for DUI related offenses.
The operation was part of the DUI Awareness and Enforcement Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
During the operation, 22 subjects on probation for felony DUI charges were checked. Three of the probationers were issued citations for driving on suspended licenses, and placed under arrest for violation of their probation terms. Two of their vehicles were impounded. One of the vehicles was released to the registered owner in the vehicle; however they were cited for allowing a suspended license driver to drive their vehicle.
This was considered a successful operation due to the compliance of people who are currently on probation for DUI related offenses. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public's continued assistance throughout the year to Report Drunk Drivers - Call 9-1-1.
