On Saturday, May 14, 2011 at approximately 10:05 p.m., Chula Vista Police Department detectives tracked Chula Vista resident and gang member, 20-year old James Martinez to an apartment in the 1100 block of Florence Avenue in Imperial Beach, CA.

Martinez is wanted for the attempted murder of a Chula Vista police officer on April 23, 2011 in Chula Vista, CA. Martinez attempted to shoot and kill a man in the 500 block of Davidson Avenue near Wild Wooleys Saloon. Chula Vista Police officers responded to the scene, spotted Martinez and a companion fleeing in a vehicle and pursued the pair.

Martinez and his companion, Chula Vista resident Sean O'Neil, drove into a cul-de-sac in the 500 block of Madrona. Martinez attempted to run the pursuing officer down with his vehicle, the officer responded by firing multiple rounds. The officer sustained fractures to his foot and is recovering.

Martinez and 21-year old O'Neil escaped, but O'Neil was arrested approximately one week later hiding at this father's apartment in 400 block of Telegraph Canyon Road. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.

Martinez was arrested today after a search warrant was served at the residence in Imperial Beach, CA. Martinez is being charged with attempting to murder a police officer.
