7/5/2011 - WEEKEND MULTI AGENCY DUI RESULTS

Chula Vista - On Saturday, July 2nd, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in Chula Vista. On Sunday, July 3rd, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in Imperial Beach. On Monday, July 4th, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI Saturation Patrol throughout the South Bay Region . These operations were part of the Repeat Offender DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the operations, 10 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, two of whom had prior convictions for driving under the influence. One of those two was charged with child endangerment as 3 small children were also in the car. The other was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. In addition, 37 vehicles were impounded for drivers without valid licenses and another 23 drivers received citations for various violations.

These were considered successful operations, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
