8/8/2011 - MULTI-AGENCY DUI/DL WEEKEND ENFORCEMENT
 

Chula Vista- On Saturday, August 6th, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego, Southwestern College, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI/DL Check Point. During the operation, 988 cars drove through the checkpoint and officers directly contacted 571 of them. Officers conducted 8 Standard Field Sobriety Tests resulting in 2 of those drivers being arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. One of those drivers had been previously arrested for DUI and had an outstanding warrant for DUI. Another person was arrested for possession of a narcotic for sale. There were 14 cars impounded for driving without a valid drivers license.

Coronado - On Sunday, August 6th, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department conducted a multi-agency DUI Checkpoint in Coronado. In total, 3421 cars drove through the checkpoint, and officers directly contacted 831 of them. Officers conducted 14 Standard Field Sobriety Tests, which resulted in two drivers being arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. Another person was cited for possession of marijuana. There were 9 cars impounded for driving without a valid drivers license.

The operation was part of the Repeat Offender DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. This was considered a successful operation, both in number of impaired drivers removed from the street and in the amount of public awareness generated. The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep drivers in our community safe.
