8/26/2011 - DUI/DL CHECKPOINT RESULTS FROM 8/26 AND 8/27 IN CHULA VISTA
 

Chula Vista - On Friday, August 26th, 2011, officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint in the 3,800 block of Bonita Road, in the City of Chula Vista, from 6 PM to 2 AM.

During the operation, 1,733 cars drove through the checkpoint. Of those, officers directly contacted 993 drivers. Officers conducted 13 Standard Field Sobriety Tests resulting in 2 drivers being arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. One of those drivers was also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving without a driver's license. Officers cited 33 drivers for driving on a suspended license or driving without a driver's license. A total of 32 vehicles were impounded. Five other drivers received citations for other violations.

Chula Vista- On Saturday August 27th, 2011, officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint in the 1,100 block of Eastlake Parkway in the City of Chula Vista from 6 PM to 2 AM. During the operation, 1,775 cars drove through the checkpoint. Officers directly contacted 792 drivers of those vehicles. Officers conducted 9 Standard Field Sobriety Tests resulting in no drivers being arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Officers cited 15 drivers for driving on a suspended license or driving without a driver's license. A total of 11 vehicles were impounded. Six other drivers received citations for other violations.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serves as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
