On Friday, August 19th, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista, Coronado, National City, Southwestern College, San Diego Police, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriffs Department conducted a multi-agency Minor in Possession Operation in the South Bay Region of the County of San Diego. During the operation, 68 minors were cited for being in possession of alcohol. One person was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor and two people were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into county jail.
Later in the night, the same agencies conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol in the South Bay Region of the County of San Diego. During the operation, 72 vehicles were stopped resulting in 15 drivers being administered SFST'S, 5 people were arrested for DUI. Six vehicles were impounded and thirteen people received citations for other infractions. One minor was cited earlier in the night for possession of alcohol and she was later pulled over by police and arrested for DUI. She was booked into Las Colinas Women's Facility.
This operation was part of the Repeat Offender DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors and intoxicated drivers off of the streets.
