Chula Vista - On Friday, August 12th, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista; Coronado; Southwestern College; National City; San Diego Police; Probation; and the San Diego County Sheriffs Department conducted a Minor in Possession Operation in the South Bay Region of the County of San Diego. During the operation, 81 minors were cited for possession of alcohol, two of those minors were cited twice, 5 people were cited for public urination, another person was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor, 2 people were cited for possession of marijuana, one person was arrested and booked into County Jail for drunk in public and assaulting an officer and another minor was arrested and booked into County Jail for possession of alcohol, resisting arrest and battery on an officer.
South Bay Region - Later that night, officers from Chula Vista, Southwestern College, San Diego Police and Probation conducted a multi-agency Saturation Patrol also in the South Bay Region of the County of San Diego. During the operation, 37 vehicle were stopped for traffic violations, 20 drivers were administered SFST'S resulting in 1 drivers being arrested for driving under the influence and one vehicle impounded for driving without a drivers license.
National City - On Saturday, August 13th, 2011, Officers from Chula Vista, Coronado, Southwestern College, National City, San Diego Police, Probation, and the San Diego County Sheriffs Department conducted a DUI/DL Checkpoint in National City. In total, 692 vehicles drove through the checkpoint with officers directly contacting 412 of them. This resulted in; 2 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 2 people were arrested for Probation violations with one of them also are charged with possession of open container of alcohol and refusing to sign a ticket. One person was arrested for possession of Marijuana. A total of 19 vehicles were impounded for drivers arrested, driving on a suspended license or driving without a valid drivers license.
All three of these operations were part of the Repeat Offender DUI Prosecution and Awareness Program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
The South Bay Regional law enforcement agencies will be continuing their efforts to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors and intoxicated drivers off of the streets.
