2/24/2012 - DUI Checkpoint Nets 4 Arrests

The Chula Vista Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on 02/24/12 as part of Chula Vista’s commitment to traffic safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Chula Vista. The location of the checkpoint was in the 300 block of L Street.<.p>

DUI Checkpoints along with regularly scheduled high visibility DUI enforcement serves as a proven deterrent with the goal of removing alcohol and drugged impaired drivers and heightening awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.

Among the arrests at our checkpoint, a convicted felon was found to be in possession of a firearm. Another subject was arrested for attempting to conceal his identity, and was later found to have multiple DUI related warrants.

  • 620 Vehicles screened
  • 2 DUI alcohol involved suspects arrested
  • 0 DUI drug impaired suspects arrested
  • 0 Suspects arrested for illegal drugs
(possession/transportation/sales)
  • 16 Unlicensed and/or suspended/revoked drivers license citations
  • 2 Arrested on other criminal charges
  • 7 Citations issued

Those arrested and convicted for DUI can expect jail time, vehicle storage or impound fees, license suspension, fines, fees, DUI classes, insurance rates will increase and other expenses that can push the cost of an arrest to over $10,000; not to mention the embarrassment they’ll face around family, friends & co-workers.

The Chula Vista PD’s next DUI/Drivers Licenses Checkpoint is tentatively set for 02/25/12. Please help keep our streets and highways safer everyday of the week: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1! Funding for this and other DUI operations are from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
