PALM TREE REMOVAL THIS WEEK IN CHULA VISTA RICE CANYON AREA

Post Date:12/11/2017 11:00 AM

More than 80 invasive Mexican Fan palm trees will be removed from Rice Canyon in Chula Vista on Friday, December 15, using a helicopter. These trees absorb water when it rains and hinder the growth of native plants making the removal necessary. Some Mexican Fan palm trees grow as high as 60 feet.

The trees will be cut down beginning Monday, December 11, which will take approximately three days. Then on December 15, the helicopter will pick up the trees one at a time and transport them to a designated landing zone and properly disposed.

Residents in the area of Rancho del Rey Parkway are advised there may be noise from both the cutting of the trees and the removal via the helicopter. This type of removal is the easiest and the most environmentally sensitive as it does not damage any surrounding landscaping or habitats. The removal is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 15.
