ADULT CPR/AED COURSE OFFERED TO CHULA VISTA RESIDENTS

Post Date:02/13/2018 10:46 AM

Chula Vista’s CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) is offering a free class to Chula Vista residents who want to learn CPR. Scheduled for Thursday, February 22, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the American Heart Association Adult CPR AED Certification teaches adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures that are performed when a person's heartbeat or breathing has stopped. The need for CPR can result from a heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest, drowning, choking, or electrical shock. CPR consists of rescue breathing, with or without a rescue mask, which works to provide oxygen to the lungs, chest compressions which helps to keep the oxygenated blood flowing until breathing is restored, and the use of an AED. Also included in the class is scene size-up to ensure the area is safe before performing CPR.

Seating is limited to 40 participants and registration is required; go to  www.chulavistaca.gov/cert. The class will be held in the City’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) located in the basement of Building C, at 276 Fourth Avenue. Each participant, upon successful completion, will receive an AHA Heartsaver Adult CPR/AED card valid for two years.  Minimum age to attend is 12 years old and those ages 12-17 must be accompanied by a parent. No snacks or beverages other than water is allowed in the EOC.
