PRINCESS PROM PROJECT HEADING TO SOUTH LIBRARY
Do you have gently used prom dresses or are you able to donate new dresses? If so, the South Chula Vista Library could use your help with the Princess Project Dress Drive and Give-Away. Donated dresses, formal handbags, jewelry and wraps are being accepted now through March 10.
Students in grades 9 through 12 from financially challenged families are provided free prom dresses and accessories so that they can attend their proms in a beautiful dress. The non-profit Princess Project promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing the free prom dresses each spring to over 1,000 students.
Donors are encouraged to drop off dresses or accessories at the South Chula Vista Library, 389 Orange Avenue, by March 10. Gowns must be in excellent condition, and all sizes, fabrics and colors are accepted. The library is open Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
Students looking for a free evening gown for their high school prom can register for an appointment. A valid high-school ID is required to receive one free dress and accessory each. Visit the website for more details and to register http://www.princessprojectsd.org/get-a-dress/.
Three dates are planned for the gown give-away event at the South Chula Vista Library: Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., (appointments from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and walk-ins from 2 to 4 p.m.), Tuesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. with walk-ins at the same time.
In addition to gowns and accessories, special guests attending are Paul Mitchell - The School for Makeup and Braid Bar providing make-up and hair tips to the students, and skin care workshops with Mary Kay consultant Rosario Beltran. This is the sixth year that the South Library has participated in the Princess Project.
Since it began in 2002, more than 20,000 teens have received prom dresses free of charge from the Princess Project. This annual effort is made possible through invaluable volunteer, donor and community support. Volunteers are needed to assist students selecting their perfect dress on the three dates in April. If you can volunteer, please contact Debbie Taylor at email@example.com or call (619) 585-5772.
