Animal Emergencies

Please call if:

- You are bitten by an animal or have an animal that bit someone else. We will ask you to try and provide as much of the following information:

• Description of animal
• Animal's name
• Address where animal lives
• Owner's name of animal
• Time of day you were bitten
• Location on your body where you were bitten

- You see an injured animal. If the owner of the animal is present, it is their responsibility to transport the animal to a veterinarian.

- You see an animal; dead, alive or injured - creating a traffic hazard or involved in a situation that is dangerous to human safety.

Animal Complaints and Nuisances

Please call our office during our daytime business hours to report any animal disturbances, noise complaints, sanitation problems, mistreatment or abuse to animals, neglect or any other animal related problems.

Dog Licensing

All dogs must be licensed in Chula Vista. Renewals may be purchased in 1 and 3-year increments. Use the online form to complete and mail in your license renewal – Thank you!

Spay & Neutering

The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility encourages owners to always spay and neuter their pets. There is a serious pet overpopulation problem in San Diego County results in thousands of euthanized animals each year. By spaying or neutering your pet, you ARE part of the solution!

The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility offers Spay/Neuter Clinics for Low Income Chula Vista Residents.
Qualifying Chula Vista residents Spay or Neuter your dog or cat for FREE!*

Animals must be two months or older and be in good health.

Here’s how it works:

1. Call (619) 691-5226 to sign up!
2. Drop off your dog or cat to the CVACF (130 Beyer Way) at 7am on the date your dog or cat has been scheduled for surgery.
3. Pick up is between 2:30-3pm. After 3:30pm, boarding charges will apply

*You will need to provide proof of residency (e.g. utility bill, rental agreement, or mortgage statement) and income verification (e.g., SSI, AFDC, Medical, WIC, EBT)

Lost & Found

If you lost a pet in Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, National City, or Imperial Beach, please go to the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility to look for your pet. If you cannot visit the facility, owners can search for their pets at www.petharbor.com.

Rabies & Microchipping Clinic at the Animal Care Facility

Effective May 2, 2012 the Rabies Clinic will be held every Wednesday from 9:30am- 4:00pm.

All dogs over the age of four months are required to be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. The cost for rabies vaccinations is $5.

How much will getting my pet microchipped cost?

Microchipping services are provided for a one-time fee of $15 per animal. PETtrac does NOT charge an annual fee.

How does a microchip system work?

The microchip itself is about the size of a grain of rice. It gets injected under the skin and becomes anchored in place as the tissue heals around it. It sits safely between the shoulder blades.

To retrieve information from the microchip, a special scanner sends a harmless radio signal through the skin to the chip. The animals feels nothing as the chip quickly sends its unique PETtrac ID number back to the scanner where it is displayed in the viewing window. The pet's identification cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed.

How long does the microchip last?

The microchip has no power supply, battery or moving parts. It is designed with an operating life of over 25 years and is guaranteed for the life of the animal. The chip requires no care.

How do I register or change my information in PETtract?

PETtrac's registration department can be reached at (800) 336-2843 ext. 4.

Does the procedure hurt the animal?

Although the microchip needle is larger than a typical vaccine needle, animals do not usually overreact it. Anesthesia is not required or recommended.

I have toy breeds/kittens. Since they are so small, can I use the chip?

Absolutely! We have thousands of customers who have toy breeds or get kittens microchipped. It might help you to know that the same sized microchip and needle are used in animals even smaller than yours.... including mice, baby birds, and newly hatched sea turtles.
