| Last night, the City Council voted to release City Manager David Garcia from employment effective immediately. Councilmembers voted to deny Garcia severance. While the City Council considers the next step in hiring a replacement, Assistant City Manager Scott Tulloch will be managing the daily operations of the City in the absence of the City Manager.
"The City Council believes we needed to make a change in order to successfully move forward
together," said Mayor Cheryl Cox at a morning news conference. "It became clear to the City Council that this action was in the best interest of the city. Our residents deserve to have the highest confidence
possible in their city government. The same holds true for our employees who work hard on behalf of
residents every day."
Garcia joined the City of Chula Vista on June 11, 2007 after a year-long nationwide search for a new
City Manager. He previously served as the County Administrator of Yuma County, Arizona. Garcia
also served as City Manager of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Next week the City Council will begin to consider the process of selecting a new City Manager. |
