|The City’s Office of Budget and Analysis will host two community meetings December 1 and December 3 to bring the public up-to-date on Chula Vista’s finances. Interim City Manager Scott Tulloch and Budget Director Ed Van Eenoo will brief the community on the deep budget cuts staff is recommending to close this year’s $4 million deficit and next year’s $20 million shortfall. Significant reductions in programs and services are anticipated. Budget staff is prepared to outline and discuss their recommendations to the City Council.
Community briefings are scheduled for December 1 at the Civic Center Library (365 F St.) and for December 3 at the EastLake Library (1120 EastLake Parkway). Both meetings begin at 6 p.m.
A nationwide housing downturn, home foreclosures, disappointing sales tax revenues and declining property tax revenues have contributed to the City’s bleak economic outlook. Economic conditions have triggered approximately $30 million in budget reductions over the past 18 months.
