Chula Vista City Hall Campus to Close on Fridays
Due to recent budget reductions and layoffs, effective May 29 buildings in the City Hall campus at the City of Chula Vista will be closed every Friday to the public. The City of Chula Vista has lost 268 positions in the past 18 months. To combat a staffing shortage yet manage the increasing workload, City Manager Jim Sandoval proposed the solution by allowing staff one work day to focus on internal business by closing City Hall offices to the public. City Hall will be open for business on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The reality is that with a smaller workforce, we cannot do all that we have accomplished before the budget reductions. However, what we can continue to do, we will do well. With these new hours of operation, I believe we can still provide a good level of public service as we have in the past,” said Sandoval.

Staff will report to work on Fridays, but front doors to City Hall buildings will remain locked. The following City departments and counters will be closed to the public: Finance, Human Resources, City Clerk, City Attorney, Engineering, Information Technology Services, Planning and Building, Redevelopment and Housing, Development Services and administrative offices for Recreation, Fire, Conservation and the City Manager. City Hall Council Chambers and conference rooms will no longer be available for usage by outside agencies on Fridays.

Public service counters in the Finance, Human Resources and Development Services departments will remain at their revised hours of operation as was announced several weeks ago. The Finance counter is now open from Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Human Resources counter is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Development Services counter hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The new business hours do not impact the Police department, fire stations, public libraries, recreation centers, the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility or Public Works offices at 1800 Maxwell Road. Chula Vista public libraries, recreation centers and the Chula Vista Nature Center are adopting their own schedule of reduced hours. Those new hours of operation will be announced in the following weeks.

The new business hours at the City Hall campus are in effect until further notice.
