After an extensive country-wide search, the City of Chula Vista has selected Betty Waznis as Director of Library Services.
For the past three years, Waznis held the title of Assistant Library Director at the San Diego County Library and has 30 years of library experience. She was responsible for the day-to-day operations of 33 branch libraries with a staff of over 400. Serving a population of over one million, Waznis has managed three divisions at the County Library: technical services, facilities and capital projects, and program services.
Waznis’ area of expertise include strategic planning, budget, policy and human resources. She has extensive experience with outreach and program through public relations, community networking and partnerships with all types of government, civic, business and school organizations. During her tenure at County Library, she opened two new branches including Spring Valley and Bonita.
With a B.A. in English and a M.S. in Library Science, Waznis has also received numerous national and local awards, conducted numerous presentations to a variety of groups and published several articles.
City Manager Jim Sandoval said, “Betty is an enthusiastic, well-liked leader who is looking forward to helping Chula Vista reach out to its library patrons and provide them with their needs in a fast changing world.”
Waznis will begin her new position on October 9.
