The Chula Vista City Council has selected Planning Commission member Mitch Thompson to fill the interim council seat vacated by Councilmember John McCann while he is on active duty in Iraq. Thompson has served on the City’s General Plan Update Committee as well as the Housing Advisory Committee. He is a financial, development and real estate professional.

In addition to the Interim Councilmember selection, the Council also appointed former Mayor Steve Padilla as the City’s representative on the San Diego Unified Port District’s Board of Port Commissioners. Padilla, a self-employed government affairs consultant, previously served on the City’s Board of Ethics and Safety Committee. While Padilla served as Chula Vista’s Mayor from 2002 to 2006, he was appointed a member of the California Coastal Commission. The Port Commissioner term expires on January 2, 2011.
