|The City of Chula Vista has submitted a response to Google's Request for Information (RFI) to build ultra-high speed broadband networks in communities across America. The City will actively seek to partner with Google in creation of a fiber network in this area.
Google recently announced plans to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Google’s vision of a fiber-to-the-home network with open access is exciting. Chula Vista has been a leader in providing its residents with 21st century technology and anticipates that high speed broadband will be an increasingly important part of the educational, economic development, communication, health care and efficient local government infrastructure.
The City has many assets to bring to the partnership including a strong higher education network and progressive K-12 schools, the presence of specific business types such as technology and health care, commitment to green initiatives and an actively engaged community.
Additionally, this opportunity provides for economic development and job creation in our area, increased technology capacity for public and private uses, and innovative, sustainable ideas spurred by the availability of ultra-high speed networking.
