Chula Vista Library Extends Hours of Operation
The Chula Vista Public Library will be opening its doors an additional 15 hours per week effective Tuesday, July 6. The new schedule restores seven day a week service at the Civic Center Branch, and adds a day of service at the South Chula Vista Branch.

The new schedule is as follows:

Civic Center Branch

  • Sunday 1-5pm
  • Monday - Wednesday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

South Chula Vista Library

  • Monday - Wednesday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Closed Sunday

EastLake Library
1120 EastLake Parkway (campus of EastLake High School), (619) 397-3980
  • Monday and Wednesday 3:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Closed Sunday

The improvement in hours is a result of reorganizing library staffing, in spite of a decline in the library's budge from the previous year.

The library has a lot to offer for kids, teens and adults this summer. A full list of activities can be found at Some highlights include:

  • The Air National Guard Band of the Southwest will be performing at the Civic Center Branch, Wednesday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m.
  • "Literary Luau" for adults 21 and over is the second in the library's series of popular literary speed dating events South Chula Vista Branch, Friday, July 16 at 6 p.m. Contact branch for information.
  • Meet popular writer Laura Preble, author of "Queen Geek Social Club," South Chula Vista Branch, Thursday, July 8 at 2 p.m.
  • Tai Chi for Teens, Civic Center Branch on Monday, July 12 at

  • "The Ole Swimming Hole" Frazzle Dazzle Puppet Show, Wednesday, June 30 at 11:15 a.m. at Civic Center Branch and 2 p.m. at the South Chula Vista Branch.
  • "Wild Wonders Animal Show" lets kids meet live animals from wetlands and rainforest, Wednesday, July 14 at 11:15 a.m. at Civic Center Branch and 2 p.m. at South Chula Vista Branch.

Everyone is welcome at the Summer Reading Program Finale: "Water Works Family Faire," with games, activities, and music, South Chula Vista Branch, Saturday, July 17 at 10 a.m.

All programs are free and open to the publich, thanks to the Friends of the Chula Vista Library and a grant from City of Chula Vista Performing and Visual Arts Fund.
